SAHM Week One -What I've Learned

by Allison @ Alli 'n Son on October 16, 2009

It’s been one heck of a week. Eli and I had the whole week planned out, with group activities almost every day. Unfortunately, most of those were a bust since we missed them for one reason or another. *sigh* We still had fun. Interested in what we did? Here’s a detailed account.

So, the million dollar question of the week is: How did I like my first week? Answer: I loved it. Not the constant dirty diapers part. But the sending tons and tons of time with the kiddo part. Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

  1. Mommy groups are pretty much like being back in high school: cliquish. There are the freshmen mommies (babies), the senior mommies (toddlers), the  popular mommies, and the band geeks. I am of course, a band geek momma trying to fake my way into the popular senior mommas. It’s stressful and I pretty much just want to stay at home for the rest of my life. But Eli was a day care baby, used to being constantly surrounded by other kids so I have to make sure that he doesn’t lose out on that just because he’s at home with me. So we’ll keep going. Eventually I’ll find some other band geek mommas to bond with.
  2. Eli eats better at breakfast and lunch than he does at dinner. I don’t need to worry anymore that he isn’t eating enough, or the right things. And he actually asked for MORE corn. Yes, that’s right, more CORN. Which although technically isn’t a vegetable, it’s close enough in my book.
  3. I love to cook. And bake. And plan out meals. Healthy meals with things like veggies and meat. Not just sandwiches thrown together at the last minute. So much so that I’m probably going to gain at least 150 lb “testing” everything that I make. At least this week I love it. We’ll see how I feel next week. And 6 months from now.
  4. I’m exhausted at the end of each day. Completely and utterly exhausted. In the best possible way. This is different that being sleep deprived exhausted. This is I-spent-every-last-ounce-of-energy-I-had-caring-for-my-kid exhausted. Yes, there is a difference.
  5. I need to plan more crafts and satay-at-home activities. You can only read books, chase after the pugs and eat snacks for so long.
  6. I need me time. More than I did when I was working. I need to regroup and do something with my mind other than plan out our next activities or meals. Or keeping the house in order. Things like read. Or sleep. Or stare at the wall until my eyes come back into focus.
  7. Dad-oo is great about making sure that I get my “me” time at the end of the day. I HEART my hubby.
  8. I eat a LOT of PBJ. Even more than Eli does. Is that weird? Om nom nom.
  9. Eli is growing up before my eyes. I’m so glad, so thankful, so blessed and so excited to be able to spend this time with him. I wouldn’t give it up for anything.
  10. I love chocolate. Scratch that. I need chocolate to survive. While that really isn’t something that I just learned, I wanted to throw it out there. Just because.
