My 5 Favorite Holiday Activities for the Kiddo

by Allison @ Alli 'n Son on December 5, 2009

This year, the kiddo will be almost 21 months old. I know, I can’t believe it myself. Last year was fun, watching him try to open Christmas presents, being spoiled rotten by all of the relatives and seeing his excitement the first time he tried Christmas cookies. This year will be a little different, he’s old enough now that we can start some family traditions for the holidays. Here are my top 5 activities that will with do with Eli.

  1. Sledding. If we actually get snow this year. Come on Wisconsin, how can it be December and we have NO snow on the ground yet?
  2. Holiday Decoration Viewing. I loved doing this with my family, driving around town on Christmas Eve, looking at all of the houses with their lights up. So festive.
  3. Baking Cookies. I love, love love baking cookies. And Eli can actually help by dumping ingredients into bowls (and yes, sometimes on the floor). Plus, I know that he’ll be overjoyed sampling the cookies when they are all done.
  4. Church. This is a given, Christmas Eve service, either at our church, or at Dad-oo’s church back in Cedarburg. It doesn’t matter where, as long as we are celebrating the birth of Jesus. Oh, and a fun family meal before hand was always a favorite of mine growing up.
  5. Presents, presents, presents. Not for me and Dad-oo (OK, maybe a few for us) but mostly for the kiddo. I love watching him unwrap presents, and play with the surprise waiting underneath. Or play with the paper. Or the box the toy came in. Whatever, as long as I get to see the smile that lights up his eyes, that’s the important part.

Thanks to Twitter Moms for hosting the Dora Christmas Carol contest, which inspired this post.
