This weekend, Eli, Dad-oo and I celebrated Doctor Suess’s birthday at our library. Cat in the Hat hats, toddler-decorated cupcakes (soon-to-be toddler-covered in cupcake), and our first time watching Horton Hears a Who. Add in a few hundred toddlers, and you have one large headache in the making.

Not only was it Doctor Suess’s birthday, it also marked the beginning of a new era with the kiddo. He’s making the move from a momma’s boy to a daddy’s boy. The two boys spent Saturday afternoon watching race RC cars, and it turned out to be a huge bonding moment for them. Later that night, and even the next day, Eli would only go to Dad-oo. The “Momma Uppy Pease” cries turned to “Dad-oo Uppa!” And more than once he reached out of my arms to Dad-oo.
While I’m overjoyed that this bonding is forming, I’m going to miss my cuddly, snuggly momma’s boy. My heart aches a little for my little boy. The little baby who needed me more than anything. I miss the baby stage.
Maybe I’m just feeling reflective because of the packing and preparing going on as we get ready to sell the house. It was a weekend of reflection. Of sentimental feelings. And a little bit of sadness to see my little boy growing up so quickly.

Even though I sometimes get a little sniffy when my kids become “Daddy’s”, it is REALLY nice knowing that they have the kind of dad that they LOVE to be around.
LOVE the picture!!

I know exactly what you mean!! My daughter is a big ole mama’s girl right now but I know that one day she is going to be all about Daddy. And it will be great – I might even get to go to the bathroom in peace – but I will miss my sweet baby cuddles.
@Upstatemomof3, Getting to use the bathroom by myself WILL be great. There’s always an upside.
Don’t worry. He’ll still need and want you too! He’s adorable!

Yeah, I know how you feel. It makes me so happy when Evan wants ME to do stuff with him. He actually seems to be becoming more of a momma’s boy these days-I think its because he gets jealous of how much time I spend with his baby sister.
@Dee, You’re the second person to mention having a baby sister. I think the world is trying to tell me something.
I think they all start out being mommy’s boy and then they move on to daddy. Mine says that he’s Daddy’s boy and his sister is Mommy’s girl.

@Buckeroomama, I think that I need to have another kiddo, just to balance things out.
Awwww. That’s a sweet picture. My little one has taken to crawling frantically after “dada” whenever he leaves the room, even trying to climb the stairs to get to him.
But when she’s feeling snuggly, she’s still my girl…

@amber, I think that momma’s always get the most cuddle time. We’re just better at it.
I understand how you feel. My kiddo is doing this right now. *sigh*
Thankfully, I am always the one my boys want to be with. But in truth that is probably because they know I will fall on the floor and cry if they ever start preferring their dad.
It was hard when my daughter did this too. But let me tellya, as soon as she is upset, or hurt, or scared I am the one she looks for. Now the day when that changes, I’ll be crushed
