After breakfast, wake up hugs, kisses and cuddles. After struggles to change diapers stinky pants and PJs. After chocolate muffins, raisins greens and milk. After Elmo and Sesame Street. After potty practice time. After clothes are put away and beds are made. Up we jump, onto Momma and Dad-oo’s “couch”. The blinds are thrown open. We belly flopp down and star out the windows. Whispering, heads together. Watching. Waiting. For the elusive trucks. Garbage trucks. Leaf pick-up trucks (he actually remembers them from last fall). Buses. Or just your plain, everyday, pick up trucks. It was heaven, wrapped up in a little boy’s joy of everything truck.
Last week, I put the question out to my Facebook fans, asking for their favorite ways to bond with their kiddos. Here’s what they said.
Danielle at Yellie Pooh, loves to individually take her boys “to Barnes & Noble. We have a hot chocolate (yummy coffee for me) and a giant cookie and then walk around the bookstore and check out all the fun books. It’s a great way to spend time together and get a new book.”
Kasey at All Things Momma (one of my fave blogs) loves to “spend time reading together at the end of the day. It’s our time to sit quietly together – without distractions. Love it!”
For Angie from The Kennedy Compound her favorite time is the “two hours we have before Matt gets home each day. We nurse, snuggle, sing, play, and just enjoy each other. Swimming lessons are also a fave time of mine with Steve.”
Melanie “love’s singing and talking to Connor. I love the way his face lights up when someone talks to him.”
That was our moment. The best moment I had all week. My Finer Thing and my Friday Favorite.
What was yours?

The best moments are the ones where my 4 year old tells me random facts and lessons I should know. Such as: “If you see someone with a blowgun, you should run up and kick them in the face.” ? You wonder what they talk about in preschool!
@Laura B, Love it! Kids say just the most random stuff.
Love it! I love dinner time with my girls. I love to listen to them talk about their day and the silly stories they come up with.
@jenny, That sounds awesome. What a great way to bond.
What a great question to ask moms. I love the Barnes and Noble idea!

My sons love to see the garbage truck too!
This morning we went to the park. Even though I should have been doing laundry or something. It was a nice day… until it snowed this evening!
@Honey Mommy,The park sounds like a much better way to spend a morning!
You sound like such a fun mom!
Love it! Kids remember the funniest things and mine love the trucks, too.
Precious! So glad you wrote it down!
Allison, I am so sorry your link got dropped and thank you so much for re-adding! I e-mailed the MckLinky person (Brent) and he told me that he had to shut the system down for 5 minutes and it happened to be the 5 minutes after I published. About 4 links had to come back and I thought I’d e-mailed everyone that I knew about having been dropped.
Ugh.
Anyway, love your post and your blog. Thanks, again!!
Hillary
The joy of trucks! Wish I could harness that simple joy into adulthood…
My younger son used to LOVE waiting for the garbage truck! We would always run out to say “hi” to Mr. Bob and watch the truck smash the garbage.
@Angela Pea, Isn’t is amazing the things that fascinate them?
