My child, this sweet little boy with beautiful hair, deep brown eyes (like his daddy) and major spunk never ceases to amaze me. And the fact that this little boy will be 2 in less than 3 weeks just floors me.
I witnessed something amazing this week. The kiddo has started playing with himself. No, not that way (get your mind out of the gutter!). Let me explain.
For the last 6 months or so, he’s been pretty good about keeping himself entertained when I need to do something other than entertain him. Usually this consists of running laps through our house, while shouting things like “Momma, I RUNNING” or “I bonked” as he always ends up on his butt at one point or another.
But this week marked the first time that he was pretending. You know, with his imagination? That thing that most of us have lost somewhere in the back of our minds? Myself included of course. He was a puppy, crawling as quickly as his little legs and arms would carry him, woofing through the living room and into the kitchen. Then back again, causing the dogs to get confused looks on their faces, wondering Is he a dog? Have we been wrong these past two years? It just melted my heart to see him playing this way. My little man, who thinks that he’s a dog.
Not only that, but I catch him from time-to-time having conversations with…? I’m not sure really. One time it appeared to be some papers on my desk. Another it was the pillow on the couch. But it doesn’t really matter what it was, just the fact that in his little mind, he was having a full blown conversation with some imaginary thing or person, just blew me away.
Being a first time mom, these new milestones are just amazing to me. I love to watch him grow and learn. Just when I think he’s conquered it all, or that a specific skill is out of his reach right now, he up and learns something new. I’m constantly in awe of what he can do.
That was our moment. The best moment I had all week. My Finer Thing and my Friday Favorite.
What was yours?

I love it! As a first time mom, I completely get what you are saying. My husband and I had a blast last night watching our 10 month old son (who is quickly picking up the walking skill) dance to his “Bro-bee”. He was waving his arms in the air when it said to, and instead of shuffling his feet, he would bounce up and down at the knees. My husband is amused everytime he dances because that is definitely a skill he picked up on his own – we didn’t teach it to him.
Your little boy is absolutely adorable! He looks mischiveous

@Beth, Too cute, I hope you take lots of photos of him dancing.
My kiddo is mischievous, more and more each day.
That is such a fun phase!!! I love listening in on kids who are playing imaginative games on their own!

Oh what a cutie!!
My 2 yo just wants to be Batman ALL THE TIME – its adorable!!
FYI I have three kids and I still get excited over milestones!
Love this more than you know! Mine play “pretend SOMETHING” all the time and I specifically recall the first time they did it. I just knew they were both geniuses.

But they still yell, “I’m RUNNING” like Forrest Gump a lot… hmmm.

@Hillary @ The Other Mama, LOL, mine always yells “I’m RUNNING” too. It’s funny how excited they get over something so simple.
I love Imaginary Friends! They are so fun for the whole family.
My sons shared an imaginary friend, perhaps because that are so close together in age. Twelve months apart – and no, I don’t recommend doing that on purpose!
Their imaginary friend was DayDay, a teeny little pocket sized girl. I used to make tiny pancakes for DayDay and the boys would eat them when I wasn’t looking, pretending that DayDay ate them!
DayDay and her wild ideas got the boys into lots of trouble…

2 kids in 12 months? Are you crazy? LOL.

Awww, love those mom moments. My guy is 3 1/2 now and it just gets better as they get older. He says and does the funniest stuff to crack me up.

So much fun! That independent, imaginative play comes in handy when mama is busy, too.
@Amy @ Finer Things, That’s so true. I can actually make dinner without his little hands wrapped around my legs.
So cool to experience firsts with our kiddos!
