Vegas Baby

Last weekend, Dad-oo took the kiddo out for a man date. Actually, I requested that they leave the house. There was so much stuff that I needed to get caught up on, The Help wasn’t going to read itself. I had 3.5 blissful hours to myself.

When they finally returned from romping in “Vegas Baby” as Eli proudly exclaimed, Dad-oo returned with this story. I just about cried I was laughing so hard. And I was possibly just a little embarrassed.

I took Eli to Marathon Park, which has about a million different playgrounds. While there, a grandmother and her granddaughter joined them. Now, although we live in a largely white community we have a very large Hmong population. This duo happened to be Hmong.

Eli developed a crush on this little girl, and was following her up the stairs to a slide. She wasn’t paying much attention to him, while he was babbling nonstop.

This is what he said:

“…mumble, mumble, blah, blah, Kai Lan, blah, mumble…”

For all of my mommy friends out there, you probably already know that there is a Nick Jr. show, Ni Hao Kai Lan. But for those of you who don’t, all of the characters in this show are Asian. And apparently my son thinks that any Asian child is automatically named Kai Lan.

So yes, this is my favorite moment of the week. Why, because it made me laugh. A big old belly laugh. And that felt so good.

Also my favorite thing for this week is: I’m starting a new blog carnival! I hope that you will join me in The Thank You Journal.

That was my Finer Thing moment and my Friday Favorite.

What was yours?

Hi Allison – I was pleased to find your blog through your guest post at Christine’s place. And, given your post over there, I was very happy to see your first paragraph about getting some downtime to indulge in one of my own favorite activities: reading. Good for you! Sounds like you enjoyed your time alone as much as your little guy enjoyed his time with his dad. :)

YAY for your carnival! that’s awesome!
And there was a little black boy on Barney named Jackson and O-man would call any black boy (at Target, the park- wherever) Jackson for about a year. It was lovely.
