Last weekend Dad-oo and I woke up at 1L00 in the morning to the cries of a toddler. This isn’t anything new, since the kiddo has been suffering from night terrors for a while now. Normally we’ll let him cry for a while, then go to check if he doesn’t calm himself down.
This time however, his cry was different. So I sent Dad-oo in to investigate.
I was quickly summoned with a shout of “Gross, I need help!”
I rushed in to find that my sweet little boy had the stomach flu. He, his bed and his little Elmo were covered in puke. Ga-ross.
I comforted and de-clothed the kiddo while Dad-oo cleaned up the bed. We settled him back to sleep, and off we went.
Only to be woken again. And again. And again. By the same thing. Four times in four hours.
But amidst all of the vomit, all of the cries and the comforting. All of the changes of clothing and bedding, y sweet little boy looked up at me with loving eyes and said:
“Momma, you’re pretty.”
No make-up, crazy slept in hair and glasses. In this exhausted and overwhelmed state, my son was able to find beauty. And that made my entire weekend.
Have you ever been surprised by a sweet complement at the oddest time? What was it? Who was it from?

Awwww–how sweet! One time my son (just turned 3 I think) just stopped and said, “Mommy, do you ever get scared?” I told him that I got scared sometimes. He patted my leg and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.” I think I melted into a puddle on the floor.

@Jen @ Little Bit This n That, What a little man! So cute.
I was working at Walt Disney World on the Kilimanjaro Ride. It was the middle of summer. In Floria, that means rains at 3pm and the rest of the day is muggy and gross.
In one day, I got compliments from guests on my teeth and my skin. These are both parts that I am totally self-conscious about, so it definitely made my day!
@Mrs Soup, I love getting compliments like that. Or when you are having a bad hair day, and someone compliments it, always makes me feel great.
My son once jumped into my arms and exclaimed, “Mommy, I love you when you’re warm and smelly!” I think I might have taken offense at that, even from one as absolutely adorable as he is… if I hadn’t just stepped out of the shower.
@Jennifer, Awww, that’s really sweet.
I’m sorry he was sick. His comment was adorable, though.
