What Better Way to Bond…

by Allison @ Alli 'n Son on May 18, 2010

When I first started out on this stay-at-home mom gig, I had a one, ummm, let’s call it a starry-eyed ideas about staying at home. OK, OK, more than one. Want to hear all of them? How time have you got?

Anyway, today’s starry-eyed idea was that our days would all be magical. You know, like those special days when you could spend some real one-on-one bonding time with a parent? Yup, I thought everyday would be like that.

I know, I know. I can see you shaking your head over there.

What actually seems to happen is that the days all run together. You see the same people, go to the same gatherings, do the same things. Week in and week out. All of those special moments become mundane and everyday.

Last week I decided that the kiddo and I really needed some one-on-one bonding time. No TV, no computer, no distractions.

Of course we found ourselves at Starbucks. Sipping on a couple of frappuccino’s. Mine full of coffee goodness. The kiddos full of sweet strawberries.

Now I’m convinced, the only way to truly bond with someone is over coffee.

Preferably the chocolate-flavored kind.

@Cecily R, Thanks, I took that with my plan old point-and-shoot. It’s amazing how you can improve a photo with Photoshop.

My oldest and I do this all the time (I know you are shocked, LOL). He prefers a hot chocolate. We sit on benches and look at the window and talk about all the trucks as they go by! You’ve inspired me to do a date with him tonight. It’s so great!

@Christine LaRocque, We did that too, watched the cars and trucks driving by. The kiddo LOVES cars and trucks.

Aw, that’s so sweet. I love the picture. I think the hardest thing for me about being home is how small my world has gotten. I love my kids and I wouldn’t be anywhere else, but that is hard sometimes.

@Mom24@4evermom, I know exactly what you mean. I sometimes feel trapped in our day-to-day lives, and completely out of touch with the rest of the world. Starbucks really does help though. :-)
