Movies, Music and Mayhem

by Allison @ Alli 'n Son on June 24, 2010

I love Fridays. Not just because it’s the end of the week (although I also love it for that reason) but because it gives me the chance to look back at the week, and to find the fun moments in it. Those moments that hide behind crabbiness, pouty lips, and potty training.

And also, I love blog carnivals. I admit, I’m kind of a blog carnival whore. Have you seen how many people I’ve linked up with today?*

This week we enjoyed our very first movie, in a movie theater. Complete with potty break in the middle, per the kiddo’s request. That was a huge moment. (And then the next day, he peed outside, on the sidewalk. I guess we’re not there just yet). The local theater holds a special movie during the summer, cheap tickets and pop corn. This week was How to Train Your Dragon, and despite it being rated PG, I took the kiddo. I set aside my fears of it being too scary, and the nagging in my head that HATES parents who let their kids watch age-inappropriate movies and we went. It paid off, big time. He loved it! No nightmares either, which I was worried about. I guess sometimes it’s OK to throw caution to the wind and jump in with both feet (after careful consideration of course).

How could you say no to a kiddo this excited?

There was also a small concert put on by the kiddo and Dad-oo. I was the only guest (there were limited tickets available) but they put on a fantastic show. I dare say it was the best concert I’ve ever been too. Even better than Pearl Jam, and that’s saying something.

Is there anything better than a harmonica and drums together in concert?

And finally, we’ve found the best group of people to hang out with. It’s a wonderful combination of moms and grandmas, different ages, different kids, yet we all mesh together beautifully. I’m so grateful for these wonderful friends.

What better goal, than wonderful friends.**

Yay! Sounds awesome.

We haven’t braved a movie, yet. I am afraid my son with get restless and want to run around and cause a raucous.

I love the harmonica playing. Wish there was audio. ;)

I’m so glad he enjoyed the movie – and you even got a potty surprise in the midst of it. The good kind that is. That is so !!!

And yes to wonderful friends. We all need them. And love them.

I love the kiddo’s ensemble in the band photos. Big Boy rocks the t-shirt and underwear look quite often these days as well. And great news about the potty alert during the movie. That’s awesome! (#1 sign you know you’re the mom of a potty-training toddler: you know it’s amazing when a fellow potty-trainer interrupts a movie (!) to use the bathroom!)

I am the queen of letting the kids watch movies before the age suggestion. Which is odd because we don’t ever watch R (the kids or myself), so after 17 the age ban is permanent. Glad your little one liked the movie. My 3 year old has asked several times if we could buy it when it comes out.
