Fashionably Thankful

by Allison @ Alli 'n Son on August 11, 2010

This week on the Thank You Journal I’m welcoming Angie from Seven Clown Circus. Yes, seriously. She agreed to guest post for me! She’s a designer jeans obsessed momma to 5, yes 5, kids. And today, she’s thankful for her fabulous sense of fashion.

Before I begin, I should tell you that it’s an honor to be here today. Being asked to guest post by someone that I adore makes me inordinately happy. To be honest, it strokes my ego, and, it’s almost like someone telling me I’m beautiful, smart, AND funny. Oh, and dress well.

So, let’s talk clothing, shall we?

As I approach embrace my mid thirties, I’ve started pondering something.

Clothing. Appropriate clothing. Fashionable clothing. Clothing that is both appropriate and flattering for someone my age.

Some people know how to rock their wardrobe, and some, quite frankly, don’t.

Here’s where it gets a little confusing for me though. I think I’m a pretty good judge of what looks good and what doesn’t. I’m pretty sure that I know what is in style, and what isn’t. What’s appropriate and what’s not. But, what if I don’t? What if I’m one of those people who think they embrace new trends and ideas, but really don’t?

What if I’m one of those people? You know, the one’s you see and tsk, tsk in your head because you cannot believe they are wearing what they are wearing?

I’d like to think that I rock my clothing, but sometimes I wonder. I haven’t embraced skinny jeans, and they are all the rage, so perhaps I’m living in the past and am just delusional enough to think that I am fashionable. For the most part.

What about you? Is clothing something you even care about? Do you ever wonder if you are a fashion faux pas and just don’t know it? Do you update your wardrobe regularly, or are you still wearing clothes you had before you starting having babies?

Just curious….

What are you thankful for this week?

I love clothes, but have found that I feel guilty buying them for myself. I don’t feel bad when I go shopping for my kids or my husband, but I feel guilty when I buy something. I always feel I have to *need* the item and not just want it. I don’t know why I am this way. But, I do buy items when I have a special place to go or my clothes are getting worn out. I still have items from before kids, but they don’t fit! haha!

I’m the same way. I love to shop and often get urges to just go crazy, but I don’t. Our budget doesn’t normally allow for that. But oh do I miss those sassy outfits from before kids.

I went through a phase in which I cared SO MUCH about not looking like a “dumpy mom.” That was two babies ago!!!

Now, I’m just happy to wear what makes me feel comfortable and happy!

Comfort is key. With out a doubt.

I’ve definitely went through phases. After my untimely hysterectomy at the ripe old age of 26, I could have cared less about fashion. It was all about comfort. I was so angry that my body had defeated me. Then the lovely affect of menopause hit and my metabolism tanked and the weight began to pile on. Another strike against fashion. But I have definitely turned a corner. I posted about my battle with the mirror last week. I have finally been able to lose weight and start to embrace my body again so I excited to actually shop and find a style that really suits me. In fact I’ve got a shopping trip planned this weekend :)

I love your fabulous guest poster! Okay, so I LOVE designer jeans. Seriously. That is the only thing nice in my closet. I wear them tops from Old Navy, Target, you name it. But only if I have to go somewhere other than preschool/gym/grocery store- for these outings, which is most of the time, I wear yoga pants and tanks. I was just looking at my closet the other day and thinking I need to throw everything out and start over. Too bad I have no time or money do that! I will just embrace my *mom* clothes!

I’ve so been dreaming of just trashing my closet and going on a huge shopping spree. Sadly, no money to fund my trip. I’m also embracing my mom clothes, I guess. ;-)
