Yes, indeed, there have been some wonderful moments this week, even though there were many, many times that I wanted to fast forward.
For instance, after a terrible, no good, very bad morning, which involved zero donuts for breakfast because the kiddo was acting up. Why or why is it that punishing him resulted in punishing me too? Over something as simple as him refusing to put on his shirt.
Anyway…
After that morning, I pulled myself together and we headed out to a park we don’t frequent that often. In the middle of a lovely, if cloudy, picnic lunch, this conversation happened:
Me: I’m glad that you aren’t being sassy anymore. I think you were over hungry, you seem fine now that you ate.
Kiddo (looking up with big, brown puppy-dog eyes): I’m not sassy anymore. I’ll do what you ask me to.
Yes, my two year old talks like an adult. The best part was that he totally listened to me for the rest of the day.
Plus…
During this very same picnic lunch, the kiddo and I were able to watch a small plane drive down the run way, going faster and faster and faster. Until. Finally. It took off into the cloud filled sky. To the squeals and delight of a little boy.
This is indeed what little boy dreams are made of.
Finally…
A perfect day {if you consider 95º in Wisconsin with 8 million percent humidity} spent with a very special little boy and a wonderful friend. Spent playing on our favorite playground, romping through the water at the splash pad until it ran dry and enjoying the best chocolate ice cream cone ever, in the sweltering heat.

I think that I have the only kid on the planet who slowly licks his ice cream, as it melts and runs down his hands and arms, filling in his tie dyed shirt and tan shorts with chocolate polka dots.
I have no idea how to get the ice cream stains out. Wish me luck.

How was your week? Did you have a favorite moment or two? Does your kid eat ice cream slowly to savor every second, or quickly to make sure not a drop is missed?

Sweet! I can’t wait for my son to start talking
My word, if you get that chocolate ice cream of these clothes, I want to see a picture and know what detergent you use!
The weather is killing us here too by the way. Hate the humidity!
The talking is a source of amazing wonder and supreme annoyance at the same time. Hold on to the silence for as long as you can.
They don’t stop once they start.
Eheh! I will try to remember that, though we’re raising our kiddo bilingual so his speach might pick up a little later — do I hear blessing in disguise?
Oh yes, blessing in disguise. Although I do love my kiddo’s squeaky little boy voice, when he’s asked me the same question a million times in a row, it gets old. Real fast.
It really was a wonderful day
Yours and Eli’s friendship is a true gift! And by the way you write so beautifully. You capture moments so well.
Oh, thank you Jennifer! We’re so blessed to have such wonderful friends in our life. Eli just adores your curly haired boy.
Awww, those truly are some sweet moments!
That is the best photo! Good luck with the laundry.
Dirty clothing = a fun day
Ugh, so far no such luck with the laundry. I’ve tried soaking it, Stain Sticking it, and Tide Stain Release. No luck. My last straw is Oxy Clean, if that doesn’t work, I’m afraid there’s no hope.
That’s one happy child, thanks for sharing. I love your sparkling moments. Makes me want to buy a new camera and figure out how to use it.
It’s raining cats and dogs here in Adelaide, Australia. Won’t be long tho and we’ll be sweltering and cooling down with ice cream. Last year my little girl insisted on eating her ice cream cone with a spoon!
A spoon, that’s a great idea!
We’ve had more than our share of sweltering heat and insane amounts of rain. I’ll be happy to share it with you.
Awwwwww…. I love that face! He’s so proud of himself, it’s so cute.
Any tips on how to get my little one to like ice cream? Yeah, weirdo, I know.
Really, she doesn’t like ice cream? Just be happy, it’s one less thing you have to say no to all the time.
What a cutie patootie! Good luck with that laundry for sure! When mine were little, they ate their ice cream slowly, too. I would have them put the ice cream cone upside down in a cup with the cone on top so they could pick it up and lick it but had a place to put it when it dripped.
That’s a good idea Cheryl. Next time I’ll ask for a cup too, so he can do just that.
Dude, did ANY of that ice cream get into his mouth? I’m laughing like mad!
Some how most of it did end up in his mouth. The place we went to has HUGE cones. Even the baby ones.
What an adorable little boy you have. My kids are all grown and I fondly look back on those days. Enjoy them, they fly by all to fast.
Thank you! I do try to enjoy him.
That is the most adorably stained ice cream scented short set I’ve ever seen! Looks like a splendid way to spend an afternoon!
It was pretty adorable. I may have taken 10-15 photos of it. I just couldn’t resist.
That pic is gold!
Now THAT is chocolate ice cream L-U-V. (And all this time I thought I loved the stuff. Apparently not.) What a great shot.
Kids show love and joy with such abandon, don’t they?
