I’ve been in love with Tropical Traditions products for about six months now. They have sent me some of the best products to try out, including Coconut Peanut Butter, Virgin Coconut Oil and Expressed Coconut Oil.
And now, I get to share with you, my experience with a new product. Organic Raw Honey.
I was intrigued by this product because I use honey in many of my recipes, and often use it as a replacement for sugar. Plus, it gave me an excuse to bake and try out new recipes. Not that I really need an excuse for that.
But at least this way I could say is was for research.
So what makes raw, organic honey different than regular honey? According to Tropical Traditions web site:
In order for honey to be certified organic, the beehives must be placed in isolated areas miles from the dense population, industry, traffic congestion, and farm fields treated with chemicals and landfills. Second, a bee’s flying range is determined by their natural instinct which tells them to stay within their natural four mile range from the hive location. Finding area which can be certified organic is extremely difficult, which is why there are so few certified organic honeys on the market. Tropical Traditions sources its honey from hives in the wild frontier areas of Canada.
One thing that caught me off guard is the way it looks. It doesn’t have the golden yellow color of normal honey. Instead, it’s a light, cloudy color. Slightly thicker and actually seems to have a heavier honey scent.
But all that really matters is how it tastes. I’ve been experimenting with this in many of the recipes I make every day, including my Chewy Granola Bars, breads and even in pasta sauces (substituting honey for the sugar).
It. Is. Wonderful.
Of course, I have a list a mile long of recipes that I’m drying to try out. And these are just a few of the recipes available on FreeCoconutRecipes.com.
- Honey Caramels
- Dark Chocolate Chunk Waffles
- Sweet Potato Coconut Peanut Butter Soup
- Rise & Shine Breakfast Smoothie
