Opportunities Knocking

by Allison @ Alli 'n Son on September 22, 2010

By far, one of my favorite things about blogging is meeting so many people that I would never have had the opportunity to meet in real life. Me, in little old Wisconsin, has bloggy friends on the East Coast, in the Midwest and in Canada, just to name a few.

But now it’s gone further.

Along the way, recently actually, I met a blogger, Alex, who very quickly became a friend. Her blog, Late Enough, is filled to the brim with hilarious recaps of every day life. At least every day life for her, this stuff doesn’t happen to everyone!

Through Alex I was introduced to the Blogger Body Calendar. A group of women {and, gasp, one man!} who agreed to pose for a calendar showing all of the ways beauty can be seen in a body. Not everyone {in fact, no one that I know} is one of those size 0 models walking down the runway. We all come in different shapes, heights, colors, backgrounds. That’s what makes us unique. Individuals. And awesome.

But this calendar isn’t just about bloggers who like to get naked. It’s dedicated to helping women and men, girls and boys, with eating disorders. All proceeds, after printing costs have been paid, will be donated to the National Eating Disorders Association.

But the best part {OK, not the best, but close to it}, I’ve jumped on board to help promote the heck out of this thing. Because it’s a topic that’s close to my heart. I’ve struggled with body image since, I don’t even know when. I guess since I realized that there were expectations of how we should look. I still struggle, and unfortunately, I don’t think it’s something that I will ever just grow out of. But, there will be more on that later. Sometime in October, I’ll be the Featured Blogger of the Week. Don’t worry, I’ll let you know when.

Anyway, like I said, I’m on stepping in to help out where I can. For the last week or so {or is it 2 weeks, I can’t remember} I’ve been tweeting from BBC2001 and updating their Facebook page. So please, pretty please follow and friend us?

And if they like me, and decide to keep me on board next year, you just may see my popping up in the 2010 calendar.

You’ve been warned.

I’m oh so thankful for Alex and Amy {the founder of Blogger Body Calendar} and anyone else involved that I have not yet met, for letting me help where I can.

Fantastic Allison, great news indeed!
I totally love this idea, and I love Alex, she is a heck of a blogger.

I have my own dealings on body image. Mostly? I can’t detach myself from the fact that I want to feel good and look good. That automatically triggers the other. And I love running and triathlons so that helps me stay active.
Others care about the latest fashion? That’s vain enough. I just want to feel good about myself, and that means inside and out. We have a French expression that says “feel good in your skin”. That’s exactly what I want, and I applaud those who manage to go past all appearances including theirs to feel good about themselves. I just know I can’t.
And so I work with that…
