There’s just something about this time of year that is simply magical. And it’s not just because of the season. It’s this year, more than any other, that has filled me with so much wonder.
Last year around this time I was a newbie stay-at-home mom. Uncertain as to what it would be like. Alone in my new role, seeking friends and groups to join and bond with. Feeling a little lost.
But this year, I’m in my element. Satisfied with this path in life and making the most of the cool days before winter sets in.
This year, more than last year, the kiddo has found so much joy in being outside. Especially at the pumpkin patches and apple orchards. The joy in his little boy eyes make me giddy. Like a two year old. Only taller.
I love walking through the pumpkin patch, searching high and low, for just the right one.
I love indulging in apple goodies. Dumplings. Turnovers. Pie. The scent pulling me in from across the apple orchard.
I love the anticipation of going to the apple orchard, even if we’ve already been there four times.
Because of the little person, holding tightly to my hand, itching to break away and run, just run, through the fields and trees. His excitement is contagious, something that I want to catch and hold on to, throughout the long winter months.
As Halloween approaches I find the same giddiness and anticipation I remember as a child. The excitement over a night filled with never ending candy. The crisp dark nights with winter jackets stuffed under costumes. Homemade costumes, because that’s what we did back then. The disappointment when my parents took the never end candy away. The sleepless, sugar-filled night, just thinking about all of the candy left to consume the next day.
It’s magical.

Wonderful photos! They capture the essence of the season. And I love the kiddo’s hair!
Fall is one of my favorite seasons
Isn’t his hair adorable? He actually requested that I spiked it up that morning.

Beautiful pictures, beautiful thoughts. I love this time of year too…
I love this story! I can identify with it so much. I too was so unsure of myself in my first year at home with my new daughter. When I look back at that time I see it with fondness but also with a feeling of relief and pride. I am relived I have made it past that uncertanty and proud how far I have come and how much I have embraced my new role.
I also absolutley love Fall too. I love the smells, crunching leaves and anything pumpkin. Which reminds me, I’m making your Turkey Pumpkin Chili on Sunday!
Great post!
