As I’ve mentioned before, I’m super excited for Halloween.
Not the endless supply of candy.
Okay, yes the endless candy. You got me.
But also because it’s the kiddo’s first real Halloween. Halloween isn’t real until you go out Trick or Treating in freezing temperatures to neighbor’s houses that you only visit once a year. Because that is what Halloween is about, stealing taking candy from perfect strangers.
It’s also about reliving my past. It’s funny how having a kid brings up all sorts of memories from when I was a kid. Plus I get to relive every holiday through the eyes of the kiddo, so it’s almost like a second childhood. Except this time I’m responsible for buying all of the gifts, costumes, decorations and treats. Which kind of blows.
Anyway…I thought it would be fun to dig through old photo albums in search for some Halloween photos from when I was a kid. Sifting through the albums, explaining who was who to the kiddo {oh man did we all look young!} was a blast. And trying to convince the kiddo that the man in the photo was indeed Grandpa Bill was hilarious. He just wouldn’t believe me.

It’s hilarious to look at the costumes we picked each year. This was back in the day when people actually made customs, and moms knew how to sew.
Me, 4ish years old
I guess it is more accurate to say that I picked the costumes, because they were often handed down to my younger sisters.

I remember carving pumpkins with my sisters, scooping out the seeds and slimy insides. Being totally grossed out by the feeling, but loving it at the same time. And then suffering through the yearly photo, where we each had to stand behind our pumpkin, pretending to smile.

Don’t you just love how old pictures just look, well old? Full of so much love. Full of so many memories. Full of so many goofy 10-month old smiles.

Needless to say, I’ll be taking a butt-load of pictures this weekend. I can’t wait.
Do you have a favorite Halloween memory?

So cute! Love all the old pictures!
Happy Halloween
“back when moms knew how to sew.” Um, yeah. My brother and I both wore a couple clown costumes that my mom made – hilarious to look back at now!
(Here’s a picture of one of those costumes: http://www.givinguponperfect.com/2009/06/happy-birthday-james/)
I never said the costumes turned out great.
Still, they were better than anything I could come up with.
Love the old pics! You are lucky to have had a mom who could sew. Mine couldn’t, so I was stuck with the plastic costumes or pajamas.
I remember those plastic costumes. I must have worn a few as I got older.
So cute! I love all of the old pictures.
