That's What He Said

by Allison @ Alli 'n Son on March 1, 2011

My son, he’s a genius I tell ya. So genius in fact, that as we rapidly approach his 3rd birthday, he’s developing a language all his own. a language so brilliant that I’m certain it will soon be taught in college, quickly move down to part of the high school curriculum, and zip its way into elementary school. This will all take place in roughly the next 5 years.

Why do long? It takes years to develop a language yo! Even my brilliant almost-preschooler can’t full develop his language any faster.

Unless I give him a bowl full of cookie dough. That might just be enough to power him through.

Cookie Batter Licker

Each week seems to bring new words with new meanings. These words are stringing together to for sentences. Sometimes I can even figure out what he’s saying. See, it’s like he’s learning to talk all over again. Which he is, in his own language. Because he’s brilliant.

Have I said that yet?

You, my lucky readers, get the first glimpse at this brilliant new language. Because I love you and I want to give you a head start in learning what will soon be the accepted language of every country around the world. High expectations? No, I don’t think so.

Dosh: a small ball for throwing and kicking

Tainsh: a ball

Little Ball for Kicking

Strape: when you knock down all of the toy bowling pins

Bowling Magic

Kosh: the bowling ball, because it’s crinkie

Crinkie: wrinkled, cracked, crinkled. See also: Kosh

Pishant: roughing translated to “pushing it”. As in, “You’re pushing it young man!” Wonder where he heard that one.

Queshment: Toy Story

Simpawatch: sock {or lack there of}

Socks, or Lack There Of

See what I mean? Brilliant.

What brilliant things are your kids saying lately?

The kid IS brilliant! He’s written his own language!

You’ll be so glad you’ve written this stuff down. You’d never think you’d forget those things, but you will. I find myself remembering cute stuff but I can’t remember which kid the cute stuff belongs to. :)

My son used to say “BACK-ah-DEE-nah” for vacuum cleaner. :)

Positively, absolutely brilliant!

Let’s see . . . um . . . my 18 month old said “tee tee” today. . .which is what most people call “pee pee.”

That’s about all the brilliance we’ve got.

Some of those I could’ve translated, but the rest are brand new. All you need are some connecting words and he’ll be set. Love those big beautiful eyes and chubby little feet!

He’s moved on to creating entire sentences with his made up words now. All of the words are made up! Good thing he can also speak English well, or we’d be in trouble.

A very awesome post! I should write one of my son’s new language. It’s so funny what the kiddos come up with. My favorite is when he tells me a story that is pure gibberish and I respond “ok” and he acts like that’s what he expected. My hubby is teaching my 2.5 year old the different models of his cars (the important stuff right?) and my sons calls the mustang a mustatang. He also says the Nomad as if he’s saying No Man. Happy Wordish Wednesday!

Isn’t that funny! It’s like they think you totally understood what they were saying.

I just adore “kid speak”. I wish we could incorporate their versions of words into the dictionary!

I should clarify, he does know the real words too. He’s almost 3 and talks like a 5 year old. He just started inventing his own words for fun!
