Growing up there was one recipe that always brought me and my two sisters running to the table. No tears. No one upset because they didn’t like the dinner selection. Just mouths happily chewing, chewing, chewing.
Pop overs.
Until, that is, only two of these babies were left. Three girls. Two pop overs. You do the math.
I remember my parents splitting the remaining two pop overs in half so we could each have some. But then, there was the lonely last half. Which we of course fought over.
Hey, what can I say. These things are good. Capital G. Capital double-O. Capital D. GOOD.
As kids we broke open their steaming shells to find their creaming yellow insides and sprinkled, wait no, doused them with cinnamon sugar. We shoved these golden beauties into our mouths and sighed as they melted on our tongues. Did you know that bread can melt on your tongue? It can. Oh yes. It can.
Now, as an adult {kind of} my tastes have refined a little. Instead of covering them in cinnamon sugar, I smother them in honey butter. Sweet heavenly butter with hints of cinnamon and vanilla.
It’s heavenly.
Unfortunately for the kiddo, he doesn’t yet appreciate the beauty of these pop overs. Yet. But I’m not upset. Oh no. That just means there are more for me.
Pop Overs
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup milk
- 3/4 cup flour
- 4 beaten eggs
- 1-2 tablespoons sugar
Preheat oven to 375º.
Generously grease 12 muffin times, greasing well on the edge and around the top as well.
In a 2-quart sauce pan melt the butter. Add milk and bring to a boil. Add flour all at once, stir vigorously. Cook and stir until mixture forms a ball that does not separate.
Remove from heat; cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
Add eggs one at a time, beating with a wooden spoon after each addition for 1 minute or until smooth.
Fill muffin cups 1/2 full and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake at 375º for 40-45 minutes. Remove to rack and serve immediately. These are best fresh out of the oven.
Cinnamon Honey Butter
Adapted from Ina Garten
- 1/4 pound {1 stick} unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
In a small bowl, mix ingredients together until well combined. Serve at room temperature.

Great minds think alike. I was so going to make a popover type of recipe today with some sauce or butter! LOL! Yours look to divine though so not going to rethink it and maybe do a eater bread of some sorts with a special butter~ Anyway, love this post. Popovers are one of my favorites! I add some citrus to mine and they are so fresh! Hope you had a great weekend!

As kids, we’d slather ours with apple butter. Pure heaven!
Ohhh, I’ve never had apple butter. I’m intrigued!
YUM!!! The popovers look SOOO good! They are such awesome comfort food! And do you have a recipe for the stewed white beans w/ bacon & spinach? That sounds SO good to me!
That recipe is from a Rachel Ray mag. If it turns out OK I’ll be posting my version of the recipe. Cross your fingers!
Here’s the original recipe, it was great! I’ll be tweaking it a little before I post my version.

Oh my but your popovers look delicious! They put me in mind of the fabulous Yorshire Pudding my father used to make with his famous Roast Beef dinners. The close up shot of the cut popover is making me crave a plateful right now!
I had popovers this morning…I made them a couple weeks ago but always make enuf to freeze. I had strawberry freezer jam with mine.

Yum! They would be great for breakfast.
My mother used to make them too and I don’t think there were too many things that I liked better than popovers. We would put a pat of butter in them and I would be in heaven. Yours look so good. Joni
Butter makes just about anything heavenly, doesn’t it?

I have never eaten a popover in my entire life. And now, after reading this, I want one more than life itself!
Okay, so I’m guilty of hyperbole. But seriously? Those look amazing. Photos. Recipe. Heavenly butter.
