“Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!”
If you happened to drop by our house unexpectedly the first thing you would notice is that it’s a mess. Please ignore that, I’m trying to keep two small children fed, clothed and happy. I don’t have time to clean.
The next thing you would probably notice is that at least one of us is missing. And in his place, is Superman. Or Batman. Possibly Flash. On occasion Ironman will even grace us with his presence. We are very popular with the Superheros.
Actually, we are a house built on Superheros. So if you ever spot a villain doing terrible villain things, you know just who to call to save the day. Send up the blog signal, and we’ll be on our way!
I’m sure you can imagine how a morning of defeating bad guys could really work up your appetite. I mean, you can’t fly through the sky and not end up with a Superhero-sized hunger.
Thank goodness we have Super Power Drinks {a term coined by my mother} to help us refuel, with the power of oatmeal and blueberries! Two of the best Superhero foods out there. There are plenty of bad guys out there to be defeated, we have to make sure our energy levels are powered up so we can continue to save the day.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup plain or blueberry yogurt
- 1/4 oats, quick cooking or traditional
Instructions
- Using a traditional blender or hand blender (my choice) blend together the blueberries, frozen banana, and milk until smooth. Add the yogurt and oats, blending for an additional 10-15 seconds or until smooth.
- Pour into two glasses and serve immediately.
The only blender Superpowered enough to use in our house is the KitchenAid KHB300WH Hand Blender. We’ve had this baby for seven years and use it for everything from smoothies to soups to dressings. Our traditional blender is saddened by this because it remains tucked away in the cabinets, hardly ever used.

This smoothie sounds great! Just what a little superhero and his busy Mommy need to re-charge! Have a great day
The little one wouldn’t touch this, but I think Miss D. would like it! I’ll be giving this a try!
Well, if two of the three of you like it, my job is done.
YUM! my husband would LOVE this!
Is he a superhero too?
Great idea to add oatmeal to the smoothie! Sounds like a sneaky way to make even a fruit smoothie more healthy.
Exactly. And you really don’t notice a change in texture or flavor.
I love smoothies and this one looks great! i never put in oats so will give it a bash!

It’s worth a try. I didn’t notice much of a change in texture or flavor, it’s more for the energy boost.
Your little boy is so adorable with those glasses and that cape. He reminds me of my son who always had his glasses and a cape. The smoothie looks great, it is a breakfast in a smoothie. Hope you have a wonderful holiday week end and thanks so much for sharing with Full Plate Thursday.
Come back soon!
Miz Helen
Thanks so much for stopping by Miz Helen!
My son is Spiderman some days, Superman other days, and Batman on the rest of the days. But he wants to be Super Why for Halloween…go figure.
Ha! My son can’t decide who he wants to be for Halloween. It changes every time bask him. Super Why is pretty awesome too.
I never thought of adding oatmeal to smoothies, but I definitely will now! Thanks for the idea – getting kids to eat healthy food is not easy.
I know just what you mean. It’s so hard to get the kiddo to eat sometimes. Especially veggies. It’s like pulling teeth.
I teach a whole room full of superheroes, with a recent wave of spidermen casting webs up and down the walls!
The smoothies look great. I love the taste of raw oats and have always wanted to try them in smoothies!
Ha! That sounds like an adventure. You might need one of these too, to keep up with all of those superheros.
I seriously love oatmeal in my smoothies! It is so yum. Thanks for the recipe!
This kid-friendly recipe sounds like a yummy and healthy treat for not just the little ones, but for mom & dad too! What a great way to pack a couple servings of fruit and whole grains into something tasty. Kudos, Allison!
thank you for this recipe! it was so good, I was skeptical if oatmeal would taste good in a smoothie, but it reminded me of an oatmeal cookie!! I used old-fashioned oats and vanilla almond milk instead of regular.
